At the same time employees claim higher satisfaction from work and more constant workloads. It achieves this mainly due to its iterative nature – motivating splitting tasks into the smallest possible units of work that have business purpose and delivering them constantly.

Kanban on the other hand is often defined as “Scrum on steroids”. It constitutes of a scheduling system for lean production.

Its main goal is just-in-time production and delivery and achievement of “pull” task management, as opposed to the standard “pull” strategies of inefficient and less agile approaches.

Efficient use of Kanban boards is a must for specialists applying this approach.

Big Data

Big Data

How does big data change the business environment?

Big data does comply with every definition of revolution. All of a sudden, everything we knew about analyzing data will need to be revisited – still, that’s what makes it interesting, right?

Below are our top 5 factors through which big data radically changed the game for the better:

  • Introducing the need for novel approaches to storing data
  • Requiring new means for iterating through data and analyzing it
  • Changing the focus from ad hoc queries and simple filters to examining varying in nature datasets of huge amounts of data
  • Making the need for instant and real-time updates even more obvious than before
  • Forcing us to stray away from the declarative nature of SQL and moving towards procedural languages for more flexibility

How to approach the big data challenge?

Below you can see our selection for the top 3 expert tips for businesses with interest in implementing big data:

  • Dimensional thinking
  • Stray away from thinking of natural-key terms
  • Expect and embrace unstructured data

So first of all, and with a little bit more detail – instead of becoming overwhelmed by the amounts and variety of data, think of it in dimensional terms. While more challenging, thinking of the data as structured is completely possible – all entities you are familiar with are already there – customers, products, services, locations, etc.

It just takes a fair bit of discipline to harness them – and the process of dimensionalization is crucial to your success. For example, while a simple and short post on social media might seem of little value at first, however with the right approach it might lead you to data about a customer, location, product, provider, customer satisfaction rating, demographic cluster, final outcome and who knows what.

With the dimensions already set and agreed on, be wary of “natural keys”. Even the most obvious ones – such as a book’s ISBN number might lead to inconsistencies between systems – we have seen this before even with lower volume, velocity and variety of data, and big data today makes this challenge even more transparent.

Make use of the surrogate keys that come with every solution. This will ensure a conflict-free future for your big data software deployment.

Finally, but probably most importantly – always expect unstructured data.

While the above two are good tools for harnessing the data, here is the reasoning behind it. Big data will often times remain outside of the SQL databases in Hadoop, or grids or some NoSQL implementation. And this is perfectly fine.

The big challenge of integration for such variety also brings bigger benefits. However with the right approach, the proper abstract thinking in order to dimensionalize and identify fields, you are in a good spot. Use it to your advantage.

Nearshore software development

Nearshore software development

Why would I go for nearshore software development?

There are multiple benefits to outsourcing software production in Eastern Europe. On the surface, there are a couple of clear ones first:

  • The time difference for other European companies is negligible.
  • Young people have high proficiency in English, so communication is not an obstacle.
  • There are no significant cultural differences that need to be overcome. With countries outside of Europe (typically to the East) this has been a challenge historically
  • Many people there have no problem maintaining different shifts. In fact, it is typically easier to provide a 24 / 7 service when you are outsourcing in Eastern Europe, rather than in any Western European country.
  • The costs of doing that are outrageously low. The costs of both office rentals and remuneration packages are up to ten times lower than in most Western European countries. The shocking part is that this does not mean lower quality by any means. Stay tuned for our case studies to see the proof of the opposite.

Click here to download our free training.

Are there any case studies to confirm that?

If nearshore software development is on your bucket list, then you need to know that you are by no means a pioneer of this idea.

In fact many major software companies have already built their own offices in Bulgaria and have seen tremendous impact.

  • As of writing this article (March, 2015) Google have announced that they will be opening a brand new office in Bulgaria.
  • Hewlett-Packard has an office in Bulgaria that is continuously growing ever since it was established.
  • And most importantly for Business Intelligence companies – SAP Labs has its second largest office situated in Bulgaria. A lot of their new products and new product versions are a result of nearshore software development.
  • Click this to find a job.

Obviously if the leading Business Intelligence software solutions provider SAP Labs can trust Bulgarian specialists to develop their products, the quality of education and professionalism in this Eastern European country is present.

Isn’t oursourcing ETL/Big Data/Business intelligence in Bulgaria risky What other big companies have seen success doing that?

Just in Sofia, there are currently more than sixty software companies that do Business intelligence related work. From software development, to consultancy to etl testing and all types of related work – the whole market is blooming there and there seems to be no stopping.

And yes, we agree that nearshore software development does appear risky at first. In fact, in many countries it can be a hit-or-miss thing – meaning that while often times you get quality service for a shockingly small price, other times you might find yourself having lost time and money.

Click here to sign up for our Business Intelligence event.

The risk does appear significantly lower in Eastern Europe, though. For example, Experian, the market leading decision analysis and credit score solutions provider has seen great success with its relocation to Bulgaria, expanding its office multiple times since its first relocation less than a decade ago.

Not to mention, big corporations such as HP, Google and Experian do not show the full picture. Small businesses are blooming as well.

So how can I easily enjoy all the benefits of nearshore software development?

M Mobile Solutions makes it easy to reap all those benefits, while taking any remaining risk completely out of the occasion. You will be able to enjoy cost-efficient labor, provided by professionals showing no cultural difference and no lack of English proficiency – with the time zone allowing easy communication throughout the whole working day. What is Business Intelligence Self Service?

When it comes to IT terms, there are two definitions of what business intelligence self service is. The bad thing is that most people mix them up which in turn creates a lot of confusion. So the first definition is the “business need”. This means business people accessing data they require for the making of a certain decision. But how is that different from regular BI? Well they access the data without the help of technology experts. Thus the “self service” part. The second definition is the technology used to fulfill the aforementioned business requirement. These tools can be used for:

  • Gathering information from multiple sources
  • Analyzing large amounts of data
  • Sharing the report with other people

And all this without having to go to the trouble of learning the technical protocols required to access the information. If you are looking for a job, click here.

What can people misunderstand about Business Intelligence Self Service?

The business need creates requirements for the business intelligence self service is a very broad concept that covers a wide range of technologies and data stores. The very thin line between “reports”, “dashboards”, “data recovery”, etc is very blurry. So there is no truly business intelligence self service solution. Someone has done some work in advance thus the above statement. All this information that is gathered by non-professionals, at some point, has to come together. And if this is to be done the right way, a technology expert has to come into play. Click here to find available candidates.

What are the benefits of Business Intelligence Self Service?

In 1991, BusinessObjects was explicitly a business intelligence self service tool. What is interesting is that business needs do not change that much over time. What changes though, is the technology used, the amount of data stored, and the level of information use. Click here to sign up for a Business Intelligence event.

What about visual analytics?

Of course, we are talking in the context of business intelligence self service here. So visual analytics means that instead of having users ask a question, then get a result and then from that result make a chart, there is much more to be done from the chart itself. A human being learns way faster by images and data presented in a visual fashion, than through conversation.

How does Business Intelligence Self Service improve the use of BI tools?

Business intelligence self service builds on “traditional” BI, in a sense, i.e. the trusted data sources, that are available through the data warehouse are a crucial part of the data analysis done in the business intelligence self service tools. Big Data

Big Data

What is big data?

Gartner does use define Big data as an innovative form of information processing for even further enhanced insight and ease and precision in decision making.

Seemingly coming out of nowhere, big data is now one of the terms that everyone uses everywhere. Joining Business intelligence as a no 1 CIO priority for the second consecutive year in 2015 (as claimed by no other than industry leaders Gartner) big data is driving transformative changes in multiple businesses.

What separates big data from business intelligence and standard data analytics known before are these three major attributes:

  • Big data is high-volume. As the name suggests, the quantity of processed information is significantly higher than what we previously dealt with. This allows much higher precision in informed decision making – however it does call for more resources and a new approach, too.
  • Big data is high-velocity. Since many executive decisions need to be taken as quickly as possible, real time data gives a huge advantage. The requirement to provide real time updates while also processing marginally larger amounts of data requires the means (and processing power) to also analyze and process the information much faster – which high-velocity stands for.
  • Big data is high-variety. Unlike Business intelligence, where the focus is mostly on the internal, big data is driven by external information. Obviously this means that the shape and form of information varies much heavily – making it more difficult to process and analyze. While this is a challenge, it is swiftly solved in the big data world – and businesses can already reap the benefits in 2015.

What are the key challenges in big data?

The above mentioned specifics, while bringing higher value, also create new challenges. Let us list the top 3 challenges before examining them:

  • The need for a novel information strategy
  • The new approach to data analytics
  • The means to managing enterprise information

Click here to sign up for our Business Intelligence event.

With more power comes more responsibility – as happens with larger stacks of data, too. The power of information needs to be harnessed and the bigger quantities call for new ways to leverage the information sources. Only this way can the potential growth turn into actual prosperity

While businesses have leveraged data analytics well before the emergence of big data, the datasets they worked with were of marginally lower size, but also complexity. There is significantly more space to look for future customer behavior and market trend insight now – but not without the proper means and approach. Focusing on the external does bring complexity with it, however there are multiple examples of businesses tackling this challenge more than efficiently. So by trusting the right people you gain the right to focus on the potential greater benefits instead of the bigger challenge.

How does big data change user expectations?

Big data also brought higher costs and newer tools to the market. User expectations have significantly changed. Employees are demanding more access to big data sources.

What’s needed to tackle this is a well thought out business plan, featuring strategically crafted processes and using the most suitable toolsets. Only by doing things right can the many data disparate sources bring their fullest value.

Gartner claim that through 2015, 85% of Fortune 500 organizations will be unable to exploit big data for competitive advantage. This is a clear tell that only a select few can harness the full potential of the new tools of the trade.

Believe it or not, this is good for your company. You have the great opportunity to be amongst the top 15% – simply by trusting the right people to do the job. Eight years of experience and multiple successful projects behind our backs suggest that you have come to the right place.
